Application Scenarios:
In a large automotive assembly plant, a powerful ABB ACS880 drive controlling a main overhead conveyor is located in a central electrical room for protection and cooling. However, the operators require local control stations—with start/stop buttons, emergency stops, and status lights—at multiple points along the 200-meter conveyor line. Running dozens of individual control wires from each station back to the central drive cabinet would be costly, prone to interference, and a maintenance nightmare. The solution is to install a remote I/O enclosure with the ABB SDCS-REB-1C interface card near the control stations. This SDCS-REB-1C card collects all local signals, digitizes them, and transmits them via a single, robust serial communication cable (like fiber optic) back to the drive’s main I/O board. This setup solves the key pain points of excessive wiring, voltage drop over long distances, and signal degradation, enabling safe, reliable, and responsive local control while keeping the main drive in an optimal environment.
