Allen-Bradley 193-ECPM3 E3 Plus Panel Mount Adapter: Front-of-Panel Motor Protection Access up to 600 V AC

Status: In Stock

Product Overview

The Allen-Bradley 193-ECPM3 is an E3 Plus panel mount adapter from Rockwell Automation’s Bulletin 193 accessory family, and it solves a problem that every panel builder and maintenance electrician eventually meets: an intelligent overload relay buried at the back of an enclosure where nobody can see it. In a conventional starter, the E3 or E3 Plus solid-state overload relay clips directly onto the load side of the contactor, which means its display, its full-load-ampere setting and its TEST/RESET button end up behind a bolted door. The 193-ECPM3 breaks that dependency by giving the relay body an independent mechanical home — either screwed to a panel face through a cut-out, or snapped onto a standard 35 mm top-hat DIN rail.Because the 193-ECPM3 is a mechanical mounting and power-conduction interface rather than a protection device, it introduces no firmware, no parameter set and no network address. It carries the line-side and load-side power conductor terminals, keeps the relay correctly located and supported, and preserves the behaviour of the trip and reset functions exactly as they would perform in a direct-mounted starter. The adapter is engineered for the 193-EC_E rating frame, which covers a continuous adjustment range of 18…90 A, and it matches Bulletin 100-C contactors in sizes C60 through C85.The value of the Allen-Bradley 193-ECPM3 shows up in the maintenance cycle rather than in the protection curve. Mounted on a motor control centre door, it lets an operator read percent full-load amperes, check percent thermal capacity utilization, review the last trip cause and reset the starter without opening a live compartment, without arc-flash PPE and without a permit. Rockwell Automation discontinued the adapter on October 31, 2019, and points E300/E200 users toward the 193-ESM sensing modules, but thousands of installed E3 Plus bases still rely on the 193-ECPM3, which keeps it a genuinely relevant MRO and retrofit part.

Main Features and Advantages

Decoupled mounting for real accessibility: The single biggest advantage of the Allen-Bradley 193-ECPM3 is that it separates where the relay sits from where the contactor sits. The contactor stays on the backplate where its heat can dissipate and where its short-circuit coordination with the feeder protection is preserved, while the relay — the part humans actually need to read and press — moves to the enclosure door. This converts a ten-second diagnostic into a ten-second diagnostic instead of a forty-minute procedure involving PPE, permits and a qualified electrician. Two mounting methods in one kit: The 193-ECPM3 supports panel mounting through screw fixing and 35 mm top-hat DIN rail mounting from the same accessory, so the same part number works in a door-mounted MCC bucket and in a small standalone starter enclosure. Panel builders standardise on one item, and field retrofits avoid custom brackets or sheet-metal fabrication entirely.Power terminals sized for the 18…90 A frame: Unlike a purely cosmetic bracket, the 193-ECPM3 carries the motor power path. Its line-side and load-side conductor terminals accept #12…#1 AWG single conductors at 35 lb-in, matching the torque and wire class specified for 193-EC_E relays, so the thermal performance and short-circuit withstand of the assembly are not compromised by the relocation.Preserved alignment, no re-engineering: Mechanical locating features hold the relay in correct relationship to the adapter body, so the TEST/RESET function, the display orientation and the control terminal access remain identical to a contactor-mounted installation. Because the 193-ECPM3 is passive, there is nothing to configure, no firmware revision to match and no network node to commission — it simply relocates an intelligent device to a place where the intelligence is usable.Lifecycle and retrofit value: Although discontinued, the Allen-Bradley 193-ECPM3 remains the drop-in solution for maintaining existing E3 Plus populations without rewiring the whole starter. For new designs, the equivalent function is delivered by the E300/E200 sensing modules 193-ESM-I-100A-E3T and 193-ESM-VIG-100A-E3T, which Rockwell identifies as the direct replacement.

Application Field

Motor control centres and door-mounted starters: The classic home of the Allen-Bradley 193-ECPM3 is the MCC bucket. In water and wastewater plants running 45 kW pump starters, in steel and cement facilities with long line-ups of medium-size drives, and in HVAC plant rooms, the adapter puts the E3 Plus relay on the compartment door so operators can read load current, confirm thermal capacity and reset a trip at two in the morning without opening an energized compartment.Shallow enclosures and space-constrained retrofits: Many legacy control cabinets were dimensioned for bimetal overload relays and cannot physically accept a contactor-mounted E3 Plus body plus its control and DeviceNet wiring. The 193-ECPM3 removes the depth constraint by letting the relay be relocated to a side panel or door while the contactor stays where it is.Separation of power and electronics on large starters: On 18…90 A starters built around Bulletin 100-C C60 through C85 contactors, the adapter lets designers keep high-current power conductors short and tidy at the backplate while moving the low-voltage control and DeviceNet wiring to a front-facing device, which reduces the chance of routing communication cable alongside power conductors.Preventive maintenance and condition monitoring: Because the relay becomes visible, thermal capacity utilization trends and trip history actually get looked at. Plants using the 193-ECPM3 in pump and fan service can catch rising current caused by bearing wear, seal friction or impeller damage long before a trip occurs.Industries served: Municipal water and wastewater, mining and mineral processing, pulp and paper, chemical and petrochemical utilities, food and beverage processing lines, material handling conveyor systems, and commercial building services. In all of these, the Allen-Bradley 193-ECPM3 is specified wherever a starter needs operator-facing diagnostics without a cabinet redesign.
