Application Scenarios:
In a critical mine dewatering facility, multiple high-power pump motors are controlled by ABB AC drives. One drive suddenly faults with a cryptic “Internal Error” and shuts down, threatening to flood lower levels. The maintenance technician isolates the drive and opens the cabinet. Diagnostic LEDs are dark, and the control panel is unresponsive. The issue is traced to the drive’s internal power domain. The technician replaces the suspect ABB SINT 4210C power board. Upon power-up, the control panel lights up, but the drive still cannot start the motor, now indicating a “Processor Fault.” This points to the control logic. Replacing the ABB SINT 4220C control board as well and performing a parameter reload from a backup restores full functionality. This scenario highlights how these two boards form the essential core—”heart” (4210C) and “brain” (4220C)—of the drive. Their failure mimics a total system failure, and their targeted replacement is a cost-effective alternative to swapping the entire drive chassis, minimizing downtime from days to hours.
