Application Scenarios:
In a water treatment facility, a central ABB DCS sends 24VDC control signals to open and close dozens of motorized valves and start pump motors. However, the valve actuators require 120VAC, and the pump motor contactors have large inductive coils. Directly connecting the DCS outputs to these loads would risk damage. The ABB SNAT 4041​ board is installed in a marshalling cabinet. Each DCS output channel is wired to the input side of a relay on the SNAT 4041. The relay’s output contacts are then wired to the field device. When the DCS commands a valve to open, its 24VDC signal energizes the corresponding relay coil on the SNAT 4041. The relay’s heavy-duty contacts close, safely switching the 120VAC power to the valve actuator. This setup provides crucial electrical isolation, protects the sensitive DCS electronics from voltage spikes and noise, and allows a low-voltage control system to command high-power devices. It solves the universal industrial challenge of signal level and power interface mismatch.
