ABB SOIA-01 Adapter Board: Flexible Connection for Peripheral Devices

In a large wastewater treatment facility undergoing a control system upgrade, engineers faced the challenge of integrating new ABB AC500 series PLCs with existing field instrumentation that used different voltage levels and signal types. Pressure transmitters operating on 0-10V signals needed to connect to analog input modules designed for 4-20mA, while legacy pushbuttons using 120V AC had to interface with 24V DC digital inputs. The ABB SOIA-01 Adapter Board​ provided the perfect solution. Installed in the control cabinet, multiple SOIA-01​ boards were configured to condition and convert these disparate signals. They provided the necessary voltage division, current conversion, and isolation to ensure reliable communication between old and new system components.
