In a large chemical processing plant, the production of a specialty polymer requires precise coordination between a batch reactor controlled by an ABB 800xA DCS and a separate, third-party additive dosing skid controlled by a Siemens PLC using PROFIBUS DP. Real-time synchronization of temperature, pressure, and additive flow is critical to product quality. The ABB SPNPM22​ network process module is installed in the main control cabinet. It establishes a direct, deterministic PROFIBUS DP connection to the dosing skid, continuously reading flow rates and valve positions.
