It performs two jobs that no other module in the rack can cover. First, the Honeywell 620-0036​ converts incoming facility AC into the regulated DC rails that are distributed across the backplane to the CPU, communication cards and I/O modules. Second, it houses a dedicated lithium battery compartment that holds up the processor’s volatile memory and register data when AC is lost entirely, so a power failure does not become a program reload.Mains flexibility is handled in hardware rather than electronics. The Honeywell 620-0036​ accepts either 115 VAC or 230 VAC, selected by a physical jumper or switch on the module, with an input window of 85-132 VAC on the 115 V setting and 170-250 VAC on the 230 V setting, across 47-63 Hz.
