Description:
The ABB SPICT13A is a communication interface module from ABB’s Advant Open Control System (OCS) and MOD 300 product families. It functions as a local bus controller or I/O processor, specifically designed to manage and coordinate the data exchange between a main process controller (like an AC 400 series) and a rack of local S100 or S200 series analog and digital I/O modules, forming a critical link in the controller’s I/O subsystem.
Application Scenarios:
In a water treatment plant’s filter backwash control system, an Advant AC 450 controller manages the sequential logic for valves and pumps. This logic requires input from numerous local proximity sensors (for valve position) and pressure transmitters, and outputs to solenoid valves and pump starters. Instead of running hundreds of individual wires directly to the controller cabinet, a local I/O rack is installed in the filter bay. The ABB SPICT13A interface module is installed as the first module in this rack. It acts as the intelligent manager, continuously scanning the connected digital input modules (like SPDSI13) for sensor status and analog input modules for pressure readings. It packages this data and transmits it over a high-speed parallel bus cable to the main controller. Conversely, it receives output commands from the controller and writes them to the digital output modules. The SPICT13A effectively creates a high-performance, remote I/O node that simplifies wiring, improves signal integrity by locating conversion close to the sensors, and offloads the detailed I/O scanning task from the main controller’s CPU.
