The Allen-Bradley 440R-H23178 is a modular safety relay from the Guardmaster MSR220P series, specifically designed as an input extension module for safety circuit monitoring in industrial automation systems. Manufactured by Rockwell Automation as part of the Minotaur safety relay family, the Allen-Bradley 440R-H23178 is engineered to interface with a wide range of safety devices, including emergency stop pushbuttons, safety gate interlock switches, safety mats, and SIPHA sensors. This module is configured with two dual-channel safety inputs, making it suitable for Category 4 applications per EN 954-1 (ISO 13849-1), achieving the highest performance levels of PLe and SIL3.

The Allen-Bradley 440R-H23178 features a compact 17.5 mm narrow-body design for 35 mm DIN rail mounting, which is ideal for space-constrained control cabinets. As an input-only module, the Allen-Bradley 440R-H23178 does not have active safety output contacts (Output: 0, 0, 0, 0), functioning instead as a signal acquisition and processing unit that typically works alongside other MSR series relays with output capabilities to form a complete safety control loop. With a 24 VDC supply, removable screw terminals for simplified wiring and maintenance, and four diagnostic status LEDs, the Allen-Bradley 440R-H23178 provides comprehensive status information via fieldbus networks to HMIs or PLCs, enabling rapid fault diagnosis. It is important to note that this model was officially discontinued by Rockwell Automation on December 31, 2017, and is now available only as new surplus or refurbished stock.
