Description

The 6DD2920-0AQ0​ is Siemens’ SIMADYN D SU70 Input / Changeover Module​ — part of the 6DD2920 accessory family that sits alongside SAV22 module carriers, LES2 optical modules, EP22 peripheral signal processors, and SA60 synchronization modules in the wider SIMADYN D cabinet ecosystem. Where the IT41/IT42 (6DD1606) handle field I/O onto the PM baseboard, and the SP23.5 (6DD1683) feeds 5 V/25 A + 15 V to the rack, the 6DD2920-0AQ0​ occupies the changeover / signal-switching layer — hard-wired channel selection, manual-auto transfer, or redundant-sensor switching that sits outside the PM’s software scan and therefore keeps working (or fails silently) even when the PM is healthy.Configured as part of the SIMADYN D cabinet build (wired, not software-project-managed like ITxx), the 6DD2920-0AQ0​ was deleted by Siemens “without substitution” effective April 1, 2008 — 9 years earlier than the IT42 and SP23.5 we covered in prior passes. Application Scenarios

On a 2050 mm hot-strip rougher (the same mill we mentioned in the IT42 and SP23.5 passes), the SIMADYN D PM6 rack for Stand E1 has a 6DD2920-0AQ0​ SU70 mounted on the wiring channel behind the IT42 (6DD1606-4AB0) and SP23.5 (6DD1683-0CD5). The SU70’s job there is unglamorous but critical: it’s the hard-wired changeover between the primary tacho (COM7 fiber into PM6) and the two backup V/F tachos (landed on the IT42’s V/F channels). When the PM6 detects COM7 tacho drift >2 % for 3 consecutive scans, a binary output from the PM fires a relay tree — but the actual signal-path switch (primary→backup tacho into the AGC loop’s software selector) is硬-wired through the 6DD2920-0AQ0​ so that even if the PM’s BO tree glitches, the tacho source can be manually forced at the cabinet during a coil-changeover. Three years ago, that SU70’s reed-relay tree went sticky on ch2 (backup tacho B wouldn’t latch — oxide on the changeover contacts from 20 years of idle time, because “backup” means it switches maybe twice a year). The symptom: during a COM7 tacho glitch event, the AGC loop couldn’t auto-fallback to backup, and the stand tripped to “tacho-loss” instead of riding through. Maintenance caught it on the quarterly SIMADYN D function-test (manual toggle primary↔backup at the SU70), reseated the 6DD2920-0AQ0, and ordered two spares the same week. Downtime: zero (caught on test, not in anger). The alternative — ripping the whole Stand E1 AGC for TDC/S7-1500 + TM54F — was a 12-day outage. That’s the SU70’s hidden value: it’s the mechanical fallback behind the software fallback, and when it sticks, the software fallback can’t engage.
