Product Overview
The Allen-Bradley 1734-ACNR is a POINT I/O ControlNet Network Adapter manufactured by Rockwell Automation. It acts as the communications gateway between a ControlNet network and the local POINT I/O modules mounted on its POINTBus backplane, transferring both scheduled I/O data and peer-to-peer messages between the controller and the field-mounted I/O assembly. In a distributed I/O architecture, the Allen-Bradley 1734-ACNR is the module that establishes the node: it carries the network MAC ID, manages connection ownership, packages I/O data for transmission and reports the status of the backplane, system power and field power through its front-panel indicators. As a member of the Bulletin 1734 POINT I/O family, the Allen-Bradley 1734-ACNR is built around modularity and space efficiency. It is typically mounted as the left-most module of a POINT I/O group, with digital, analog and specialty modules snapped directly onto the same DIN rail and interconnected through the built-in backplane. The adapter itself contains an internal DC-DC converter that changes the externally supplied 24 VDC into the 5 VDC required by the POINTBus, allowing it to power the mounted I/O modules directly without a separate backplane supply for many configurations. The trailing “R” in Allen-Bradley 1734-ACNR denotes redundant media support. Two coaxial BNC channels provide the physical network interface, so a break in the primary cable does not by itself disable the I/O node. Together with a Network Access Port for local programming and maintenance, comprehensive diagnostics and DIN-rail mounting, the module is designed for distributed I/O applications where predictable scan behaviour and serviceability matter.
