The Honeywell 800XP-SM32​ is a single-width I/O subsystem mounting kit that forms the mechanical and electrical backbone of a High-Performance Process Manager (HPM) I/O station within the Experion PKS architecture. Rather than processing signals itself, the Honeywell 800XP-SM32​ provides the card cage, the backplane bus and the power distribution network that allow a set of individual 800XP I/O modules to operate as one coherent, addressable node. Every analog input, analog output, digital input and digital output card in the station plugs into this backplane, draws its supply from it, and exchanges data with the HPM controller through it.The “Standard Orientation” designation matters more than it first appears: it defines the direction in which the module connectors face when the rack is installed in a cabinet, and therefore dictates cable routing, field wiring access and cooling airflow.
